Kindness Stones

“Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but their echoes are truly endless.” -Mother Teresa

Have you heard of The Kindness Rocks Project?  It’s a simple concept of decorating a stone and leaving it for someone else to find. The thought is that it might brighten someone’s day and then they would pay if forward and make a stone.

Projects with kids do not always have to be messy and a big production. I’ve been talking with my little ones a lot lately about kindness and how they can make a difference in just being kind to others.  When I heard about this project, I thought it would be a fun thing to do together.

We first collected ten rocks and washed them. While they were drying we talked about words that might make someone smile. We narrowed it down to 10 and got to work.

After I wrote the words on the rocks, the kids used Sharpies to decorate the rocks.

When all of the rocks were decorated, we went for a walk around our neighborhood and placed the rocks where they may make some people smile.
